Welcome to the latest episode of Movie Review Talk with Scott Mantz! On this episode, Scott, Perri Nemiroff and Marc Andreyko discussing three new releases – Bohemian Rhapsody, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms and Boy Erased. The critics also give their thoughts on BlackKklansman Blu-ray that is available next week. Bohemian Rhapsody stars Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazello, Aidan Gillen and Mike Myers. The film is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms comes from Disney and noted film director Lasse Hallstrom. It stars Mackenzie Foy, Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman, Jayden-Fowora-Knight, Misty Copeland and Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren. The film focuses on Clara who only wants a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift from her late mother. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip, a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. It’s inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale. Boy Erased stars Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe. The film tells the story of Jared, the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents at age 19. Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a conversion therapy program – or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith. Boy Erased is based on the memoir of Garrard Conley and is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity. The film comes from Focus Features and writer/director Joel Edgerton who showed what he can do behind a camera with The Gift.
