In 2017 -2018 LGBTQ hate crimes rose by 144%,how can we change views and make this the most amazing and powerful Pride celebration yet?
Harriet, Emma and Scarlette Douglas who is sitting in for Natalie as she take some time off, speak to Philip Baldwin LGBT and Human Rights Activist, who is telling them about the theme of this years pride which is The Stonewall Riots, paying respect to some of the earlier and amazing LGBTQ activists, and Phillip shares that 11,600 Hate Crimes where reported from 2017 -2018 a rise of 144%, in a time that seems to be more open than ever about LGBTQ issues why are these numbers still rising by so much? And Phillip talks about some of his experiences being a gay christian man, and his views on LGBTQ issues and Religion.
Harriet, Emma and Scarlette are joined by Tyrone Huntley star of “The View Upstairs” a new Westend musical which is inspired by the attack that happened on the people of the “The Upstairs Lounge” which was a LGBTQ bar in New Orleans. The attack happened in 1973, but Tyrone shares what he learnt about the lives of the people who were involved and how far views and rights surrounding LGBTQ issues have come in less than 50 years.
And they discuss how musical theatre allows strong messages and important stories to be conveyed on stage whilst also celebrating the LGBTQ community!
