The Porto Protocol: finding workable climate solutions for the wine industry with Adrian Bridge
Porto Protocol is one of the key industry events where people in the wine industry don’t just talk about issues regarding climate change, but commit to finding solutions that inspires action.
Today, we speak with Adrian Bridge, Leader of The Porto Protocol & CEO Taylor's Port regarding climate change in the wine industry.
About the Porto Protocol:
The Porto Protocol Foundation is a non-profit corporate institution, founded by Taylor’s Port, that counts with hundreds of members, united by a binding commitment to make a greater contribution to mitigate climate change.
Born out of the wine industry and spread across industries from its whole value chain, Porto Protocol was created under the belief that, if we share our successes and experiences, our response against climate change will be more effective.
We work as an open and shared platform, a place of inspiration for change, a dynamic database of resources and workable solutions from which companies and individuals from all over the world, wishing to take action, can benefit and contribute.
About Adrian Bridge:
In May 1994, Adrian moved to Portugal to become the next generation in a family wine company that stretches back to 1692. He initially worked on USA and UK markets before taking responsibility for the company 1998 and formally becoming CEO on 1st Jan 2000.
Although the group is primarily focused on quality Port production it has expanded into retailing, distribution and tourism.
Adrian has started in 2018, an initiative on Climate Change Leadership where the first event was a summit to launch the Porto Protocol at which President Obama was present. The second event, in 2019, had Vice-President Al Gore as the keynote speaker.
