Reflections on ‘Fashioning Masculinities’ at the V&A with Alessandro Michele and Alexander Fury, as well as Hamish Bowles, Claire Wilcox and Rosalind McKever
Opening in March of 2022, ‘Fashioning Masculinities: The Art of Menswear’ is the first major V&A exhibition to celebrate the power, artistry, and diversity of masculine attire and appearance. The show traces how menswear has been fashioned and refashioned over the centuries, and how designers, tailors, and artists – as well as their clients and sitters – have constructed and performed masculinity, unravelling it at the seams.
This special episode features a conversation between Creative Director Alessandro Michele and Alexander Fury, the Fashion Features Director of AnOther Magazine and menswear critic of the Financial Times. Recorded at the V&A, the two discuss how Alessandro Michele’s work has shifted modern perceptions of fashion, especially the different ways of being a human. To follow, Hamish Bowles, Editor in Chief of The World of Interiors magazine and Global Editor at Large for Vogue, talks with the show’s co-curators, Claire Wilcox and Rosalind McKever. Together they recount the exhibition's rooms which display iconic looks by legendary designers and rising stars alongside historical treasures and acclaimed artworks.
