Learning That It Is Never Too Late with Gail Waring
“There’s so much more out there that I’m exploring now that I didn't really care about before. When I go on my walks now, the bird song and trees rustling, it’s just like love to me and brings me so much pleasure I can’t describe it.”
Scott is joined by his mum, Gail Waring, to discuss their shared journey to sobriety and the challenges they have both faced with regards to their relationship to alcohol. Working as a hospital nurse, Gail developed a daily habit of using alcohol in the evenings to relax and wind down, leading to increased social anxiety and additional unhealthy choices.
You’ll hear how after many years of using alcohol to escape the pain of confronting childhood trauma, she was inspired by Scott’s decision to go sober and saw it as an opportunity to create a better life for herself. Gail talks about how mindfulness, therapy and journaling has helped her through her sobriety, and how she has discovered a new zest for life, now she is excited for each day and feels she can be more present with the people she loves.
