Portugal - Jamie and Xander discover the rich history of Portuguese wine
For this episode, Jamie and Xander stroll through the Douro Valley, to discover the world’s oldest appellation, the DOC. Portugal's ties to the UK are historic, with frequent exports of wine to England while trade with nearby France was disrupted by bitter feuds and war.
Perhaps the most notable export is Portuguese Port, a drink so successful in the UK that it quickly became favoured by the drinking elite. As we'll discover in this episode, the UK's image as a proud drinking society has it roots much further into history than you might expect.
