Proper Football With Darren Anderton
Lord Sugar, Gazza, Harry Redknapp, Jurgen Klinsmann and Sir Alex Ferguson…No, this is not the line up for a reality TV show but they are just some of the names that crop up in this week’s pod as Darren Anderton sits down with Kammy and Ben.
He explains why he rejected Manchester United in the mid-90s and how a cheeky request led to Lord Sugar telling him to get out of his house. He recalls getting words of encouragement from an unlikely source ahead of his England debut, being part of Tottenham’s ‘Famous Five’, and reveals who came up with Jurgen Klinsmann’s dive celebration. He also relays what really went down on the infamous night of the Dentists Chair, tells what it was like being part of Euro 96 and reminisces over his role in Gazza’s memorable goal against Scotland.
He also talks honestly about his early struggles at Tottenham and how just badly the ‘Sicknote’ label affected him mentally during his career.
Meanwhile, Kammy recalls the day he surprised Harry Redknapp and Jim Smith before a game at Portsmouth and reveals which Premier League boss locked themselves in their office to avoid a grilling.
