Ep 140. “My performance of femininity was really draining” ft @tatendashamiso
Hey hey, welcome back to another episode of Two Twos. This week we are joined by writer, musician and theatre maker, Tatenda, who is currently making waves in the theatre space with his production of 'No ID'. The show follows the journey of a Black transgender immigrant in the UK. It’s a story about a guy stalking himself, tracking his gender transition to prove he’s real, sifting through his childhood, adolescence and early adulthood to form a narrative that will please the many arms of our beloved government.
Today we sat down with Tatenda to hear all about his life and what brought him to the making of the show. From the logistics and paperwork around changing his name and gender on his passport, on top of doing it in a country he wasn’t born in to realising his bureaucratic nightmare infiltrating his whole life. Tatenda's life has been quite the journey and we get into a whole lot during the episode.
Plus we talk his involvement with Theatre Peckham and The Vault Festival, what it means to support stories you want to hear more of (the importance of buying tickets/retweeting/etc), Zaya Wade and more...
