The Press Secretary said this week that “These are our kids. They belong to all of us.” Conservatives had a predictable meltdown. Is she right, or is she wrong? What are the “sides” in this debate? Are there more than two sexes? Can a human transition between sexes? Are we sliding back towards regressive gender norms, and embracing social contagion and mental illness? With regard to a Florida bill restricting gender transition interventions for minors, an ER doc said that it is his job to “take care” of people, regardless of their beliefs. True. But what does it mean to take care? The two sides in this debate fundamentally disagree about what constitutes care. Finally, Bret invites Eliezer Yudkowsky to debate AI, LLM’s and complex vs. complicated systems.
