This week's guest is former Met Police Commander John Sutherland. John recently spoke at Leadership Series - the virtual incarnation of our annual Leadership Summit - and gave a remarkable take on what he calls the lost art of listening, not only drawing on his career as a senior police officer but also his experience as a hostage and crisis negotiator. In this special episode, James and John discuss his training to become a hostage negotiator, debate the pros and cons of having to communicate with each other for over a year via video conferencing and talk candidly about the pressures of modern policing.
