Playing Chicken With The ERG Over The Rwanda Bill
The European Research Group of Conservative MP's have spoken. They called on the Prime Minister to pull the Rwanda bill and work on new legislation instead because they think that in it's current form, it does not go far enough. As things stands, they may well vote against the government's bill during the second reading tomorrow. Another section of more centrist Conservative MPs - the One Nation Group - will also decide today whether to vote for the government's bill. They may well accept it in it's current form and their concerns are diametrically opposed to the ERG. The PM is going to have to upset one group, but the big question is who will blink first in this game of parliamentary chicken? And what would a defeat in the commons mean for Rishi Sunak's premiership?
Joining to discuss is the Conservative MP and former party Chairman David Davis, the former Attorney General Sir Geoffrey Cox, and the former Deputy Prime Minister Sir David Lidington.
