2170 - Yamamoto, Prospects, and more
Fantasy Baseball Live – December 23, 2023 – 9:30 am???
Segment 1 – News and Notes (Slow week)
1.Yamamoto makes his selection, and it’s…drum roll, the Dodgers. He signs for 12 years, $325 million. He gets a $50 mxillion signing bonus, and then the deal is backloaded with some light tax years in between.
a.To say the Dodgers are in it to win it, is an understatement.
i.Thoughts on the signing
ii.Who else do they grab or is this it for the big signings?
iii.On paper, the Dodgers look great, but I’ve seen this story many times (like the 2023 Padres) and it doesn’t always end well. Does this one end well with the Dodgers in the World Series?
b.You had the Mets, I had the Yankees landing Yamamoto.
i.What do the Yankees do? They signed Soto and need pitching: Snell, Montgomery? Do they trade for someone?
ii.Mets, same question. Do they sell and play for 2025…Alonso?
2.Rule changes. A lot of changes were made, most were small and too detailed to discuss, but here are three that I would like you feedback on?
a.The runners lane to first base was expanded to include the base line to the grass cut to first. This one always comes up when a pitcher hits the batter who looks like he’s running straight to first base but is called out, because he’s running out of the baseline.
b.Pace of game changes. Reduce time from 20 to 18 seconds when runners are on pace before the pitcher has to deliver a pitch.
c.Mound visits cut down from 5 to 4. It was noted that this is the least favorite thing for fans. I don’t dispute the survey, but really???
d.These all seem trival to me.
e.The big one is that the players don’t like the changes and voted against them. Since they don’t have a say in the rule changes, it didn’t matter. Why on earth did the players allow the owners to have full power over the rules?
Segment 2 – Top 400 Dynasty League rankings.
This week, I did a Top 400 Dynasty League ranking for our Patreon subscribers. We will talk about the Top 50. It’s on the Patreon site, but I’ve also included the spreadsheet. Some thoughts on a direction.
1.I’d like your thoughts on the overall rankings and whether they are even helpful for fantasy managers.
2.Age was a huge driver for me. In your experience, how do you evaluate the Mike Trout’s vs. the Jackson Holidays and Jackson Chourios?
3.We will go through and list the players and talk about them briefly. Not everyone.
