Women of Science Fiction: Gertrude Barrows Bennett

Gertrude Barrows Bennett (1883-1948) was a writer of dark fantasy whose work influenced A. Merritt and H.P. Lovecraft in her own lifetime. Writing under the pen name Francis Stevens, she introduced bizarre and dystopian tropes to the world of science fiction, which are still in use today.

These diverse women from across space and time are grouped into easily accessible and engaging monthly themes like Educators, Villains, Indigenous Storytellers, Activists, and many more.  Womanica is hosted by WMN co-founder and award-winning journalist Jenny Kaplan. The bite-sized episodes pack painstakingly researched content into fun, entertaining, and addictive daily adventures.
