2193 - Starting Pitching Preview
Fantasy Baseball Live – February 4, 2024
Segment 1 – News and Notes
1.The Angelos family agreed to sell their team to a group headed by famed private equity manager David Rubenstein. Also included in the team is HOFer Cal Ripken and former NYC mayor and billionaire Mike Bloomberg. The Angelos family still has a controlling interest but has agreed to sell the team upon the passing of Peter Angelos, who is 94 and in failing health.
a.While this doesn’t guarantee that the new ownership group will spend money, the Angelos family was not going to. Therefore, I think it’s a good thing for the Orioles franchise. Your thoughts?
2.Perhaps related to the sale, the following day, the Orioles acquired Corbin Burnes from the Brewers for IF Joey Ortiz, LHP DL Hall and the Orioles 1st round competitive balance pick (Pick #34).
a.What did you think of the deal? Was it a win-win or did one side get the better of the other?
b.You have to like the Orioles top three starters now in Burnes, G. Rodriguez and Kyle Bradish, no?
c.Do you think the Brewers had to do this deal as the likelihood of signing Burnes, a Boras client, was next to zero?
d.Are you investing in either Hall or Ortiz?
3.The A’s acquire Ross Stripling. It’s not great stuff but he throws strikes. Any interest?
Segment 3 – Starting Pitching Preview (We will likely do two podcast)
1.How are you approaching this position for your upcoming drafts?
2.We will break down the top 30 to 45 in detail. Then, go through the next 30 in less detail. We will end by jumping around the remaining ranked players.
3.Which player not in the Top 15 has a chance to emerge there next season?
4.Which Top 15 player will not be there next season?
5.Give me a couple of sleepers
6.Give me one, maybe two guys you will just avoid drafting?
