Understand what is different about where you are headed versus the current state. Causing disruption in what people personally value is what causes resistance. You’ll never stop resistance, forming, but following the steps you can be more prepared when it comes. Be transparent, communicate regularly, and if you can set a cadence so people know when to expect updates and when to expect information. Involvement where possible helps to reduce the resistance. If there is opportunity to involve people get them involved it’s a worthwhile investment because if people are part of the solution they will own it going forward. People will create that culture when they understand where they are going why they are going there. They can understand it and then realign to it. Give them the confidence and knowledge they need to be successful. Culture change is not going to happen overnight, you have to keep working at it. It’s all about communication and respect for people, as so much of continuous improvement is.
