Session 347: Black Women Expats

Session 347: Black Women Expats

By iHeartPodcasts and Joy Harden Bradford, Ph.D.

Have you ever dreamed of a meaningful life abroad, where your days are spent basking in local natural wonders and surrounded by new language, food, and culture? A kind of life that swaps your career-driven lifestyle for a life-centric existence? While it may sound like a whimsical fantasy, it is indeed possible to plan a life you love in another country.

Proof of that are today’s guests, Roshida Dowe and Stephanie Perry. Both women are passionate proponents of career breaks, sabbaticals, and grown-up gap years. In 2020, they founded the ExodUS summit, an organization that shows Black women ways to plan their exodus, all while fostering community. Since the creation of ExodUS Summit, hundreds of their members have taken a career break, moved abroad or begun living nomadically. During our conversation , Roshida & Stephanie answer all the questions you might have around financing your move abroad, pouring into the local community as a foreigner, and announcing your sabbatical to your employers and family.
