GETTING EARLY FILM AVAILABLE FOR COLLEGE COACHES!! OFTEN A COLLEGE COACH WILL TELL A PLAYER THAT THEY WANT TO SEE EARLY VIDEO THERE IS A GOOD AND BAD TO THIS… THE GOOD IS – YOU HAVEN’T BEEN ELIMINATED YET! THE BAD IS – YOU HAVEN’T SHOWN ENOUGH UP UNTIL NOW TO BE A PROSPECT! NOTE – YOU’RE A PLAYER UNTIL A COLLEGE IS CONSIDERING YOU AS A POSSIBLE RECRUIT AND THAT MAKES YOU A PROSPECT. NOW THAT THERE HAS BEEN “FOR THE MOST PART” A GAME OR TWO OR THREE IN HIGH SCHOOL AND JUNIOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL AROUND THE COUNTRY. **NOTE - COLLEGE COACHES USUALLY WILL LOOK AT THE 3RD GAME OF THE SEASON. Every staff is different but this is the most common timing. The current seniors (class of 2024) are under the gun and need to have two goals… 1) Be sure that the highlights of the first 3 games are what the college coach wants and needs to see to recruit you. a. 1st step quickness…explosiveness… b. Competitiveness…effort…finish c. Flexibility…hips/knees/ankles d. Position fundamentals/execution/ 2) Focus their attention and efforts on the level of play that they fit!! DON’T WASTE TIME AND EFFORT! a. THIS IS WHERE I CAN BE A HUGE HELP IN THE PROCESS!! Rivals.com b. The class of 2024 according to Rivals.com has 2203 committed to a college. c. Class of 2024 has 3,360 offers made by colleges The current juniors (class of 2025) are not far behind in the recruiting process… though their entire season will be under scrutiny … know that offers are being given to all grade levels. It’s crazy but even 8th graders have been offered. a. The class of 2025 has 96 prospects committed to a college. b. Class of 2025 has 1601 offers made by colleges We can dispute how many of these offers and commitments are real but that’s for another day. **Note – prospects and their families can ask the college coach “what happens if I accept the offer” The answer will tell you where you stand! You’re not going to hurt anyone’s feelings or lose the offer!! **WHAT I DO AT TAYLOR SCOUTING IS EVALUATE THE PLAYERS HIGHLIGHT VIDEO TO HELP THE PLAYER, FAMILY, AND SOMETIMES THE HS COACH KNOW WITH PRETTY GOOD ACCURACY FROM MY 40-PLUS YEARS EXPERIENCE, SUCCESS, AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROCESS WHAT LEVEL THEY FIT!! I EVALUATE THE LEVEL OF PLAY – BASED ON WHAT A COLLEGE COACH WILL SEE AND GIVE ADVICE AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW TO IMPROVE THE HIGHLIGHT VIDEO ITSELF AND ANY FOOTBALL AND/OR ATHLETIC IMPROVEMENTS OR EFFORTS NEEDED TO HELP WITH THE EDITING OF THE HIGHLIGHT… LIKE THE PHOTO OF THE PLAYER…ACADEMIC INFO…CONTACT INFO…PERSONAL STATEMENT. COLLEGE COACHES EVALUATE EVERYTHING AND A PERSONAL STATEMENT IF DONE CORRECTLY IS A GREAT THING!! IT GIVES THE COACH SOME INCITE INTO THE ATHLETE.
