What To Do When Loved Ones Display Eating Disorder Behaviors (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Week 3 with Crystal Lunenschloss (MS, RDN, LDN, CEDRD) is all about addressing this listener email that Amy recently received:
Amy, I have a good friend who, pretty clearly, is battling an eating disorder. When we go out to eat somewhere, she often asks the server many questions about what’s in the food and then orders something and doesn’t eat any of it. She makes excuses saying she’s “never hungry”, but I, as her friend, am worried. She is underweight and I have noticed some of the behaviors you have talked about from your days with disordered eating. Do I gently say anything to her, perhaps that I am concerned? Or do I not say anything at all? I just hate seeing her this way and want to let her know that I am concerned, but in a loving manner. Do you have any idea on how to approach her about the situation? I would love your thoughts!!! Thanks, Anonymous (we omitted her name for privacy)
Crystal became a Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian to help people reconnect and heal their relationship with food and their bodies and we are SO THANKFUL that she joined us the last 3 weeks with her wisdom. We look forward to having her back on!
