We Are "Regular People"

We Are "Regular People"

By iHeartPodcasts

Today's dose of "Vitamin D" is dedicated to "regular people." Now, I know you may have been shocked. You're like, "Dawn, what do you mean being regular? Why be ordinary when you can be extraordinary?" Well, I think sometimes we place a lot of pressure on ourselves, and we forget the fact that we are just human. So you know what I do when I do what I do.

I was listening to some music, and I came across this track entitled "Regular People," featuring Mahalia, Hamzaa and Lucky Daye and in it, the track talks about what it means to be a regular person. To feel, to experience life. What I received from it is the whole notion of having grace. Which is giving yourself space.

But in it, the lyrics go, "put your hands up if you love your skin. What you wear are the clothes you're in." There's no need for any type of mask, no type of imitation. It's just you showing up as you. And see, that's what I feel, what it means to be a "regular person," just to be who you are. No expectation of what THIS person looks like or what THIS person should do. It's just, you doing you.

The song goes on to say, "'Cause we're in what and who we are is good enough." Half the time we try to put other things on to mask who we are because we feel like we aren't at a standard. We feel that we haven't met the mark. But what if I told you you was enough? Because you are.

Forget the notion of trying to show up always ready. Be in the act of being ready, getting ready, being and doing and breathing. That's what I want for you, ok? Understand we are all just regular people.

All right, that's it for your dose of "Vitamin D." Be sure to follow us on all social media @VitaminDDawnDai and until next time, always remember, "you are your greatest asset."
