Daring to Find Your True Purpose with Fashion Designer, Norma Kamali (The Velvet)

By iHeartPodcasts

With this month's words "Dare" & "Purpose" in mind, Kelly revisits a conversation she had with iconic fashion designer, Norma Kamali. Norma Kamali is one google search away from loads of outward success stories- from Farrah Fawcett's classic red swimsuit, to the "Carrie" dress on Sex and the City- her designs have catapulted a career in fashion for over 50 years. However, in true Velvet's Edge form, those stories of her successes as well as failures launched a much deeper conversation about true life purpose, finding your soulmate and the lessons in the ups and downs of life.
"I found my soulmate at 65," Norma Kamali tells Kelly. "And I simply wasn't ready for him before that. From failed marriages to childhood happenings, I had a lot to sort out within myself."
Ms. Kamali laughs when Kelly says "I'm about to turn 40 and I had this mentality at first, like, my life is done. It's over!" and rebuddles "that's hilarious. You are just getting started."
Kamali tells her stories of being broke while having her designs run in major magazines like Vogue and is the greatest reminder of not comparing your insides with others outsides and staying the course to your own purpose.
Her story is powerful and inspiring. She is the definition of daring.
