The Standard can reveal that the Royal Mint has been told by the Treasury that it would not have to mint any new 1p and 2p coins for general circulation this year - and doesn’t expect to order any more in the coming years.  Our Business & Technology Correspondent, Simon Hunt, who is behind the story, explains what we know so far about the situation and whether the UK is officially becoming a cashless society.
